Social Justice & Equity
Anti Biased Framework Standard: 10. Students will examine diversity in social, cultural, political, and historical contexts rather than in ways that are superficial or oversimplified.
This Integrated Thematic Unit is designed to have students identify a pressing social issue in their local community that they feel is not currently being addressed.
Students will collect demographic information about their local community and use statistical modeling methods to make inferences about the population of their whole community. These inferences will be used to create a targeted plan for positive social change in their local community. Student plans must include active actions that the students can carry out in their local community to assist with alleviating their identified social issue. The teacher will assist students in identifying appropriate actions that they can take to meet their identified social issues.
Student plans will be presented to their classmates for review. After revision the student plans will be presented to the Principal and School Board for possible implementation.
